Personal watercraft drivers are reminded not to drink alcohol until after they’re done having "fun in the sun".
National water safety statistics show that alcohol is involved in 37% of boating fatalities. About 80% of drowning involves men. The age group that has the highest drowning risk is men between 18 and 24. Adults 25 – 49 years of age continue to account for 41% of all water-related deaths. Read more…

The second phase of the By Ways campaign reminds snowmobilers not to drink alcohol until after they’ve finished riding for the day.
National statistics show that more than 40% of injuries treated in specialized trauma units across the country are related to snowmobile activity. Of those, the latest data shows that alcohol was a factor in about half of the cases. Read more…

The third poster in the By Ways series targets those who use ATVs, particularly in a recreational setting.
In February 2003, the Canadian Institute for Health Information reported that injuries from ATV-related activities were the third most common cause of severe injuries next to cycling and snowmobiling. In 2000/2001, ATVs accounted for 1.3% of overall injury hospitalizations, and of those, 26% involved prior consumption of alcohol. Read more…
